Alliance for Catholic Education
The University of Notre Dame’s ACE Teaching Fellows has received a grant from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. The funding will support training of 176 Volunteers in Indiana who will go on to teach in underserved communities across the country.
AmeriCorps State and National, a federal-state partnership with a central role for governor-appointed State Service Commissions, develops and implements state-specific national service programs, engaging more than 50,000 Americans in intensive service each year. These grants support organizations in recruiting, training, and supervising AmeriCorps Volunteers who provide services in education, disaster services, health, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity.
"AmeriCorps remains one of our most vital tools for tackling the real challenges our communities and country face today," said John Staud, executive director of the Alliance for Catholic Education. "We're grateful to the organization for recognizing the impact AmeriCorps Volunteers serving with ACE Teaching Fellows have in the classrooms and communities where they work. Through this service, these Volunteers address local needs while building civic and leadership skills that will shape the rest of their lives."
With AmeriCorps support, ACE Teaching Fellows will serve 10,500 students in 151 schools across the United States; coach nearly 2,000 students in sports from football and volleyball to cross country and swimming; and coordinate service-learning activities in their classrooms and school communities to build a foundation for civic engagement and informed citizenship.

The Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) Teaching Fellows program, part of the Institute for Educational Initiatives (IEI) at the University of Notre Dame, is a two-year graduate teaching experience through which participants serve in Catholic schools while earning a tuition-free M.Ed degree. For more than 30 years, the service of ACE teachers has helped sustain, strengthen, and transform Catholic schools.
