Cafeteria Manager
St. John’s Catholic School is seeking a dependable, organized, and service-oriented Cafeteria Manager to oversee the daily operation of our school nutrition program. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals while ensuring compliance with all Department of Health and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) regulations.
The Cafeteria Manager plays an important role in supporting the mission of our Catholic school by providing a welcoming dining environment and promoting the health and well-being of our students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Food Service Operations
Plan and prepare monthly menus in accordance with National School Lunch Program guidelines.
Prepare and serve breakfast and/or lunch meals for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Ensure meals meet all federal, state, and local nutritional requirements.
Maintain accurate daily production records and meal service documentation.
Manage special dietary accommodations for students with allergies or dietary restrictions.
Assist with daily lunch count reporting and meal tracking.
Compliance and Record Keeping
Maintain compliance with Department of Health regulations and National School Lunch Program requirements.
Complete and organize all required documentation for NSLP and Commodity Program audits.
Stay informed of and implement new or revised policies and regulations.
Maintain organized records, files, and reports related to food service operations.
Inventory and Purchasing
Order food, supplies, and kitchen necessities in accordance with approved procurement procedures.
Manage inventory of purchased and USDA commodity foods.
Monitor stock levels and ensure adequate supplies are available.
Recommend cost-effective purchasing and operational improvements.
Kitchen and Facility Management
Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe kitchen and cafeteria environment.
Ensure all food handling and storage procedures meet health and safety standards.
Clean kitchen equipment, serving areas, dishes, and cafeteria facilities daily.
Monitor kitchen equipment and report repair or replacement needs promptly.
Communication and Technology
Communicate effectively with school administration, faculty, parents, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Utilize email, internet resources, spreadsheets, and word processing programs for reporting and communication.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of the position.
Professional Development
Complete all required continuing education and training programs, including:
National School Lunch Program training
Department of Human Services training requirements
Commodity Program training requirements
Food safety certifications as required
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in food service, school nutrition, cafeteria management, or related field preferred.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills.
Basic computer proficiency, including email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
Ability to work independently while maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude.
