JOB SUMMARY: The Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial and operational functions of the school, including budgeting, accounting, human resources and compliance with local, state, and federal laws, while ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values. The Business Manager collaborates with the Lake Michigan Catholic School Fund, the principals, and the Finance Sub-Committee of the Local Consultative Advisory Board (school board).
FOCUS AREAS: The Business Manager is responsible for the overall financial and operational management of the school, including budgeting, accounting, human resources and compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Act as general accountant for the district
- Manage the staff of the department
- Provide monthly financial statements for all funds on a cash basis
- Payment and recording of all accounts payable transactions
- Receipt and record all cash deposits, and maintain cash accounts
- Monitor all cash balances and to make appropriate cash transfers
- Preparation of cash flow analyses
- Monitor grants
- Preparation/distribution of annual budget
- Managing budget, monitoring line items, and reporting on significant variances
- Oversee payroll and benefits performed by third party paycor
- Maintain all financial files and records
- Prepare appropriate journal entries
- Balance interfund accounts on monthly basis and make corresponding cash transfers
- Prepare financial information requested by the Pastor
- Ensure proper internal controls are being followed
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students/financial aid
- Review and charge out teacher subs to the appropriate departments
- Maintain and strengthen the relationship with the pastor and the school administrators (principals).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITIES: Under the general supervision and approval of the Pastor, directly supervise and hire assigned support staff.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance and/or a related field with two or more years of successful experience
- Must having working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Experience in financial management, preferably in a school or nonprofit setting.
- Knowledge of Catholic school operations.
- Commitment to working within the scope of Catholic values and teachings.
- Proficiency in accounting software, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with FACTS management, parish data systems, or other school financial systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems and coordinate projects
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to work well with other individuals and groups
- Demonstrated ability to utilize all forms of electronic communications
- Ability to operate a personal computer and appropriate software
- Ability to get along with other people
- Patience in dealing with parents, employees, and community members
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to use standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, fax
machine etc. in conjunction with administrative duties; and must possess a valid driver’s license to attend meetings and conferences as appropriate as well as for travel both locally and nationally.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
CONTRACTED DAYS: The position is contracted for 260 working days.
• This position earns 20 annual days of vacation time, summer months preferred.
• Health Insurance for the employee (optional vision, dental, and family plans can be purchased).
• Recognized holidays are included in the scheduled working days.
• In accordance with Diocesan Policy, the position is not required to report to work during Christmas
and Spring Breaks.
• This position will receive paid time off (12 Sick Days, 20 Vacation Days & 2 Personal Leave Days) in
accordance with diocesan/school policy.
• Eligible for 50% off tuition.
• Retirement benefits; term life insurance equal to the employee’s annual salary.
